Prospecting

My 99 dodge Cummins is a power house for towing the equipment to sight but it is by no means a good vehicle on the small FSR.

Me and my buddy have a debate going i said my Suzuki grand Vitara is a better off road back road vehicle over his Nissan Xterra

Well....being that I am that buddy with the Xterra..... you know what I am going to say !! lol

I like that the xterra is built on a truck frame and a little "stronger" but i admit you can probably get a better turn radius and get in places i cannot in the Suzuki Grand Vitara !!

arc_geo - Love riding my bicycle. I am looking to add a electric bike to my gear list. Might invest in a secondary battery as well.

As for vehicles, My 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD has a 6" lift makes most access great for what I do, but I would prefer to keep the GMC for my main vehicle. I have spent alot of time doing sharp turns and corners, or to turn around and have mainly preferred to back up for a good spot to turn around, where if I had a smaller rig for prospecting I would be able to turn around alot easier. But I want to add a smaller vehicle to the fleet. I am thinking of getting a older Four Runner and modifying that for the smaller mining roads or old trails. My old jeep liberty was a beast on most roads but it also had times of unreliability but I abused it a few times.

As the new-ish guy compared to many I just take my F-150 on the FSRs, tho it could be fun to load up my motorcycle to do trips out. I know not everyone has the motorcycle liscense but would be easier to get into some sites with it.

Ive used 3 vehicles since I started. First was my TJ sport which was great for exploring, but lacked room. Then i had a Delica which was awsome for camping, but too hard to find parts deep in the bush. Now i Have 2003 dodge, which I love for the power and reliability. Once I get myself an atv and camper, id say im set for all aspects of prospecting.

I am loving my little GMC Sonoma for exploring, who ever decided to put the 4.3l V6 in there was a smart man! Far more torque than that little truck frame needs. But by far i got further and deeper into the woods on my 50cc yamaha scooter than i ever did with my truck. Took deer trails up over hills and down into new spots all the time.

I like the smaller vehicles for prospecting ( xterra, suzuki etc) as they get into tight places and are cheep on gas...Now that being said if your highbanking and dragging alot of gear i understand using something bigger (truck) . I used to prospect in my 99 dodge and the gas was hard ...When i baught my Xterra I basically payed for it in gas saving in one or maybe 2 seasons. Im only 5'10 and I can just fit sleeping in the back so it workes great for me . I installed a roof rack for more gear and that was definitely a game changer !! Happy hunting all

I just expect that my 1/2 ton is going to take beating and that its going to get damaged. It can make itself room.lol

I should rig up my bike for good prospecting setup. as it could be fun to get into someplaces on the bike either it being just hand tools and such or also with some highbanking kinda gear but that would be easy enough with the stuff i have.

@pickaxe Both my xterra's are first generation ( 2000-2004) I love them so much !!! Wont ever change my prospecting vehicle personally.. I have 2 of them now ( one now for parts) and man are they so agile in the bush ( can fully do a three point turn just bout anywhere).. It's like an overgrown quad lol ... and I can sleep in the back being under 6 foot
