There are plenty of excellent angle grinder impact crushers on the market e.g. Crazy Crusher etc. However, their capacity is small, and battery life is an issue unless one wants to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on multiple spare batteries.
Additionally, the Keene RC-1 rock crusher fits on top of a 5 gallon bucket and is excellent for crushing at home, or close to your vehicle in the field. However, it's too heavy for any serious remote sampling where long hikes are involved over difficult terrain.
I'm wondering why there are any options in the middle, providing a sample crushing setup with more capacity than an angle grinder, but less weight, bulk and cost than a Keene RC-1 that weighs 85lbs.
In other words, a lightweight, compact, and moderate capacity mini rock crusher (probably an impact crusher as they are lighter and more efficient than even a micro jaw crusher).
For example, a scaled down version of a Keene RC-1 that uses a 4 stroke engine (e.g. a Honda WX-10 or similar) or a 2 or 4 stroke engine salvaged from a string trimmer. Hell, you could even use one of those mini pocket bike 2 stroke motors. Of course, one would have to use an appropriate V belt drive and gear reduction to achieve the proper RPM's.
A lawn mower sized engine is not required for the RPM's necessary to run a small chain flail mill.
I may end up making one of these 4 stroke mini impact crushers, as I haven't seen any DIY builds or options on the market.
Have you seen or heard of a mini or micro rock crusher that is a better option than a Keene RC-1?
What are your thoughts?
